Ninety minutes stretch ahead through 70 kilometers of changing landscape. Your guide fills the journey with texture: the mystical roots of Taoist culture, the astonishing history of Dujiangyan's ancient engineers, a preview of the day's wonders. By the time you arrive, you're not just preparedโyou're already inside the story. ๐ฟ
โฏ๏ธ 10:00 โ 12:00 | Qingcheng Mountain โ Cradle of Taoism
Mist. Forest. The Birthplace of Stillness.
Step out of the car. Breathe in. The mountain air hits you firstโcrisp, cool, impossibly clean. Towering forests wrap around you in every shade of green. Welcome to Qingcheng Mountain, the birthplace of Taoism, where sages sought harmony with nature and found it in every leaf, every stone, every breath of mist. ๐
Wander through the lush trails to sacred sites that pulse with centuries of devotion:
๐ฏ๏ธ Tianshi Cave (ๅคฉๅธๆด) โ the Cave of the Celestial Master, where legend carved itself into the mountain
๐ Shangqing Palace (ไธๆธ
ๅฎซ) โ the Palace of Supreme Clarity, serene and elevated, closer to the sky
Choose your ascent. Feel invigorated? Hike the forest path, each step a quiet meditation, each viewpoint a reward for your effort. Prefer to float? Glide effortlessly above the emerald canopy via the panoramic cable car. The mountain doesn't judge. The mountain simply welcomes. ๐ก
๐ฟ Midday | Local Flavors & Gentle Transition
๐ 12:00 โ 12:30 | Qingcheng Mountain โ Dujiangyan
Quick Drive. Quiet Countryside. Appetite Building.
A short, scenic 20-minute drive through 15 kilometers of peaceful countryside. Watch the mountains soften into foothills. Rest your legs. Let anticipation build for what waits ahead.
๐ 12:30 โ 13:30 | Authentic Sichuan Lunch
Farm-to-Table. Mountain Flavors. Your Spice, Your Way.
Sit down at a local restaurant where ingredients travel meters, not miles. This is farm-to-table in its truest form. ๐ฅข
The table welcomes you with regional treasures:
๐ฅ Qingcheng cured bacon โ smoky, rich, carved from mountain tradition
๐ฒ Ginseng chicken stew โ warming, nourishing, deeply restorative
And the spice? Always adjusted to your taste. No sweat. No tears (unless you want them). Just the deep satisfaction of flavors that have been perfected over generations. ๐
๐ Afternoon | Ancient Engineering & South Bridge
โ๏ธ 13:30 โ 16:00 | Dujiangyan Irrigation System to South Bridge
A 2,200-Year-Old Miracle. Still Working. Still Roaring.
This is not a ruin. This is a living, breathing masterpiece.
Built over two millennia ago, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System still tames the mighty Min River without a single dam. Your guide decodes the genius at three core sites:
๐ Fish Mouth (้ฑผๅด) โ where the river is split with elegant precision, half flowing to irrigation, half continuing its journey
๐ช๏ธ Feisha Weir (้ฃๆฒๅ ฐ) โ where sediment and flood waters are spun away by natural forces alone
๐ช Baopingkou (ๅฎ็ถๅฃ) โ the Bottle-Neck Channel, carved through solid mountain rock by fire and water, the final gate controlling life-giving flows
Walk the gently swaying Anlan Suspension Bridge (ๅฎๆพๆกฅ) . Visit Erwang Temple (ไบ็ๅบ) , built to honor the father-son engineers whose vision tamed these waters. Stand at the water's edge and listen to the roar of the Min Riverโancient, untamed, yet harnessed by human brilliance. ๐
Your walk ends at the historic South Bridge (ๅๆกฅ) , its ornate roof spanning the rushing current below. Rest here. Feel the spray. Marvel at what human hands achieved when they worked with nature, not against it. ๐ฏ
๐ 16:30 โ 18:00 | Leisurely Dinner & Old Town Exploration
Your Pace. Your Choices. A Vibrant Evening Unfolds.
Free time opens around the vibrant old town. Your guide shares top recommendations, then steps back. The evening is yours to shape. ๐ฎ
Sample local snacks from street vendors. Or sit down for a full meal at a restaurant that catches your eye. Wander narrow lanes. Browse small shops. Let the town reveal itself at your own rhythm. No schedule. No rush. Just the warm hum of local life as daylight begins to soften. ๐ข
๐ญ Evening | Sichuan Opera & Return
๐ฌ 18:00 โ 19:10 | Sichuan Opera & Face-Changing Show (70 Mins)
Fire. Acrobatics. Masks That Change in a Blink.
A short walk from the bridge brings you to a dazzling cultural spectacle. ๐ช
The lights dim. The stage ignites. For 70 mesmerizing minutes, you'll witness:
๐คธ Acrobatics โ bodies defying gravity with effortless grace
๐ฅ Fire-breathing โ gasps guaranteed
๐ญ Bian Lian (Face-Changing) โ the lightning-fast art of mask-switching, colors flashing, identities shifting in the flick of a wrist, the secret guarded for centuries
This is not a museum piece. This is Sichuan's soul on stageโvivid, thrilling, unforgettable. โจ
๐ง 19:10 โ 20:30 | Night Views & Return to Chengdu
Blue Tears. Quiet Reflections. The Journey Home.
Step out of the theater. The night has fully arrived. And something magical has happened to South Bridge.
The bridge glows with its famous illuminated "blue tears (่็ผๆณช)" nightscapeโan ethereal blue reflection dancing on dark water, like the river itself is weeping light. Stand there. Take the photograph. Let this final image settle into your memory. ๐ธ๐
Then, your private driver waits. You sink into your seat. The road carries you safely back to your Chengdu hotel, arriving around 8:30 PM.
One day. A sacred mountain. A tamed river. A stage of fire and masks. And the quiet image of blue light on ancient water, guiding you home. ๐๏ธ๐๐ญโจ

Loved this tour. Mr. Zhang brought Taoist philosophy to life on Qingcheng Mountain. The Dujiangyan water system is mind-boggling for its age. Face-changing performance was spectacular. South Bridge night views were Instagram gold.

I'm a history and engineering nerd and this tour was basically designed for me. Lily clearly had deep knowledge of both Taoist philosophy and the Dujiangyan irrigation system. Qingcheng Mountain was the spiritual start โ Lily explained how Taoism emerged here, the concept of wu wei (non-action), and how the temples' architecture reflects Taoist principles. The cable car ride gave us panoramic views of the forest canopy. At Dujiangyan, Lily went into detail about how Li Bing designed the system in 256 BC. The key insight was that instead of building a dam (which would silt up), he used the river's own energy to manage itself. Fish Mouth splits the water 60/40 (60% to the inner irrigation channel, 40% to the outer flood channel) โ and this ratio automatically adjusts with water volume. Feisha Weir uses centrifugal force to separate sediment. Baopingkou was carved through Yulei Mountain using thermal shock (fire then cold water) because they didn't have explosives. It took 8 years to cut through. The system still irrigates 5,300 square kilometers today. After the engineering deep-dive, the Sichuan Opera was a delightful contrast โ pure entertainment with cultural roots. Face-changing originated in Sichuan opera and the speed of the mask switches is genuinely baffling in person. South Bridge at night was the photogenic finale. The lunch was excellent โ the ginseng chicken stew and Qingcheng bacon were standouts. Lily was one of the best guides I've had โ knowledgeable, engaging, and happy to go deep on the topics I cared about. 10 hours of pure intellectual and sensory delight.

Solo traveler here โ booked this to see a different side of Sichuan and it was the best decision. Sophia was warm and inclusive, making sure I wasn't left out of the group dynamic. Qingcheng Mountain was my favorite part โ the Taoist temples perched on the mountainside, the mist through the trees, the quiet. Sophia explained the Taoist principles and how they influenced Chinese medicine, martial arts, and philosophy. We took the cable car up and hiked down, which was the right call โ you get the views going up and the intimate forest experience coming down. The lunch was a highlight โ the restaurant felt like someone's home and the food was the most authentic Sichuan meal I had. Dujiangyan was fascinating even for someone who's not into engineering. Sophia made the history vivid โ Li Bing and his son designing this system in 256 BC, and it still works. The scale is impressive: Fish Mouth diverting the river, the weir controlling sediment, the channel through the mountain. Walking the suspension bridge over the roaring river was exhilarating. The free time in the old town was nice โ Sophia recommended a tea shop where I had the best jasmine tea. The Sichuan Opera was pure entertainment โ face-changing, fire-breathing, acrobatics. I was in the front row and still couldn't figure out the mask switches. South Bridge at night was magical โ the blue lights, the reflection on the water, the buzz of the town. Sophia dropped me back at my hotel right on schedule. Practical notes: wear sturdy shoes, bring layers (the mountain can be cooler), and bring your camera. This tour is a must-do for solo travelers.

Solid day out. David was punctual and knowledgeable. The cable car option on Qingcheng was a smart choice. Lunch at the local restaurant was authentic (love that Qingcheng bacon). The opera show capped it off perfectly.
