The Spiritual Epicenter. The Birthplace of Taoism.
Welcome to the heart of Qingcheng. This is where Taoism took root and spread its branches across centuries. Emerald-green forests embrace you as you step deeper into sacred ground. 🏯
You'll visit iconic sites that pulse with spiritual energy:
🕯️ Tianshi Cave (天师洞) — the Cave of the Celestial Master, where legend meets stone
🙏 Shangqing Palace (上清宫) — the Palace of Supreme Clarity, perched high and serene
The legendary, secluded beauty of Qingcheng reveals itself at every turn. Moss-covered steps. Ancient inscriptions carved into cliff faces. The scent of incense drifting through temple halls.
Choose your own rhythm. Feel invigorated? Take the forest hike—each step a meditation, each viewpoint a reward. Prefer ease? Ascend effortlessly via the panoramic cable car, watching the canopy slide beneath you as the mountain lifts you toward the sky. 🚡 There is no wrong way. Only your way.
🌅 03:30 PM | The Gentle Return
Quiet. Reflective. Full.
Your private car waits. You sink into your seat. The mountain begins to recede, but it hasn't left you.
Your driver safely escorts you back through the winding green, arriving at your Chengdu hotel around 5:00 PM. The city's energy will feel different now—louder, perhaps, but you'll carry a pocket of stillness within you. 🌆

This was the most peaceful day of our China trip. David picked us up at 8am from our hotel and the 90-minute drive to Qingcheng Mountain was comfortable. David used the drive to introduce Taoist philosophy and the significance of tai chi as a wellness practice — not just exercise, but a moving meditation rooted in Taoist principles of harmony. We arrived at the Back Mountain for the tai chi class at 10:30. The setting is incredible — a quiet clearing in a misty forest with ancient trees. The Taoist master was welcoming and spoke enough English to guide us. We did about an hour of tai chi: warm-ups, breathing exercises (Qigong), and a short sequence of movements. The master corrected our postures gently. Even as a complete beginner, I felt the meditative quality of the practice. The mountain air is something else — clean, cool, slightly sweet. After the class, we had a Taoist-style lunch at a nearby restaurant. The food was vegetarian-friendly, light, and made with local mountain ingredients — mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tofu. Surprisingly delicious and I didn't feel heavy afterwards. Then we drove 30 minutes to the Front Mountain, the spiritual epicenter of Taoism. David gave us the choice of hiking or cable car — we took the cable car to save energy. The Front Mountain is stunning: emerald forests, ancient temples, stone paths. We visited Tianshi Cave (where the founder of Taoism supposedly meditated) and Shangqing Palace. David explained the Taoist symbolism in the architecture and the stories behind each site. The whole day had this gentle, unhurried pace that matched the Taoist philosophy perfectly. We were back at our hotel by 5pm. Tips: wear comfortable clothes for the tai chi class, bring layers (the mountain can be cool), and keep an open mind. This tour is perfect for anyone seeking a genuine wellness and cultural experience. David was outstanding.

I booked this tour specifically for the tai chi component and it exceeded my expectations. Xiao Chen picked me up on time and the drive to Qingcheng was scenic. The tai chi class took place in a forest clearing on the Back Mountain — no tourists around, just trees, mist, and birdsong. The Taoist master was authentic — not a performer, a genuine practitioner. The class lasted about an hour and covered breathing techniques, basic stances, and a short form. The master's English was limited but Xiao Chen translated the key points. What struck me was how different this felt from doing tai chi at home — the mountain setting, the crisp air, the atmosphere of the place where Taoism began. It added a dimension I can't describe. The Taoist lunch was a pleasant surprise — I'm vegetarian and they had plenty of options. Fresh mountain vegetables, tofu, mushrooms. Light but satisfying. The Front Mountain tour in the afternoon was equally rewarding. Xiao Chen walked us through the history of each site — Tianshi Cave's connection to Zhang Daoling (the founder of religious Taoism), Shangqing Palace's significance as a meditation retreat. The cable car up offered panoramic views of the forest canopy. Xiao Chen was knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about Taoist culture. The whole day felt like a retreat rather than a tour. Back at the hotel by 5pm. This is the tour for anyone interested in wellness, mindfulness, or Taoist philosophy. The combination of physical practice (tai chi), nourishing food, and spiritual sites is perfectly balanced.
