Descriptions
🌿 Escape the Crowds. Discover the Roots. Touch the Stars.
🧭 Why Leave the City Center?
Most travelers never venture beyond the Bund. They never stand where Shanghai truly began. They miss the origin story—the deep roots beneath this global megacity.
Today, you'll trade the heavy crowds of Yuyuan for something rarer: space to breathe, layers of time, and a journey through 6,000 years of civilization in a single, unhurried day.
Your private car collects you from your downtown hotel. A 50-minute drive. The city thins. The sky opens. You're heading west to Songjiang—the district known simply as the "Roots of Shanghai." 🌱
🏛️ Stop 1: Guangfulin Cultural Relics
A Floating Epic on a Sacred Lake
You arrive. And then you see them.
Nine roof-shaped pavilions rise from the lake's surface, appearing to float between water and sky. This is the landmark of Guangfulin—an architectural dream made real. Step into the Underwater Museum and descend through time itself: from the whispers of the Neolithic Age, through the elegance of Ming and Qing dynasties, all preserved beneath the lake's still surface.
Ancient town charm meets the artistic beauty of water-bound architecture. You're not just visiting history. You're standing inside it, surrounded by it, floating above it. 🏯💧
🏨 Stop 2: Deep Pit Hotel (InterContinental)
An 88-Meter Descent Into Wonder
Next, the ground disappears beneath you.
A world-class architectural feat carved into a decommissioned rock quarry. This is the world's first "groundscraper"—a building that clings to the cliffside, descending 88 meters into the earth. From the viewing platform, you overlook a spectacular man-made waterfall cascading down rugged rock faces.
This is a premier photography spot. This is also your moment to pause. Lunch here (self-funded) comes with a surreal canyon backdrop—a meal suspended between engineering audacity and nature's raw beauty. 📸🍽️
🔭 Stop 3: Starry Sky Village & Tianma Telescope
Where Earth Listens to the Universe
The final stop feels like stepping onto a film set.
In a serene village, the aesthetic shifts to quiet sci-fi. Traditional farmhouses have been transformed into art studios and astronomy-themed cafés. But the true giant awaits: the 65-meter (213ft) Tianma Radio Telescope rises from the quiet countryside, its massive dish tilted toward the heavens.
Stand before it. Feel the power of scientists "listening" to the universe—catching whispers from deep space. Now turn your head. Just a few kilometers away, a thousand-year-old pagoda stands in silent witness. Ancient stone and cosmic signals. Centuries of prayer and frequencies from galaxies. This is the breathtaking clash that defines Songjiang. 🌌🛕
🌅 The Journey's End
By evening, your private transfer glides you back to downtown Shanghai. The skyline reappears. But something has shifted.
You now carry a deeper truth: Shanghai's life force extends far beyond the skyscrapers of Lujiazui. It thrives in the roots deep in the soil. It echoes in the miracles carved into the pits. It reaches toward the vision that looks to the stars.
Three stops. Six thousand years. One unforgettable day. ✨
